Description

Add this to your cart if you want your piece(s) of pottery from your workshop to be glazed and fired to make them waterproof and food-safe.

⏳ Timeline: 6–8 weeks
Your piece(s) will be ready for pickup or shipping approximately 6–8 weeks after your workshop due to the multi-step drying, firing, and glazing process. See "What's Included" for details on why it takes this length of time.

First, select the method of return (pickup or shipping) that contains the abbreviation for the state where your workshop took place. Then, select the number of pieces you want to have glazed + fired.

You must submit this digital form after your workshop to ensure you receive your pieces back (don’t worry, we’ll send this via email). In the form, you’ll choose your glaze (clear or white) or indicate if you plan to join us for pottery painting.

If we have not received a form submission within 30 days of your workshop, your piece(s) will be recycled. Pieces not picked up within 30 days of receiving a pick-up email, will be recycled.

There is an inherent risk with pottery throughout the drying and firing process. Even with careful handling, pieces can crack or break, which is part of working with clay, even for professional potters. Please view our "Refund Policy" here for details on what happens should your piece break.

What's Included

Massachusetts & New Hampshire Workshops

This upgrade includes glazing and two professional kiln firings.
Your piece(s) will be collected by our host after the workshop and returned to our Pottery with a Purpose Studio in Needham MA. There, they will be carefully hand-glazed in your choice of white or clear and fired twice by our studio professionals.
If you select "Shipping", your piece(s) will be processed and shipped back to you after the glazing/firing process is complete in 6-8 weeks. If you select "Pickup", your piece(s) will be processed and available at the Pottery with a Purpose Studio (178 Crescent Rd Suite 1, Needham, MA 02494).

Rhode Island Workshops

The Ceramic Clay Upgrade is only available for RI workshops where the upgrade is noted as available for purchase on the event page.
This upgrade includes glazing in clear or white, and two professional kiln firings.
Your piece(s) will be collected by our host after the workshop. They will be carefully hand-glazed and fired twice and available for pickup in Needham, MA (178 Crescent Rd Suite 1, Needham, MA 02494) or ready to be shipped to you in 6-8 weeks.

Why Does the Pottery Finishing Process Take 6–8 Weeks?

Each ceramic piece goes through a detailed, multi-step process to become waterproof, food-safe, and long-lasting:

• Drying (7–10 days): Your piece fully dries to prepare for the kiln
• Bisque Firing (24+ hours): Pieces are loaded into the kiln for the first kiln firing which hardens the clay
• Sanding + Prep: Pieces are unloaded from the kiln, then edges are smoothed and bottoms are cleaned and waxed
• Glazing: Your piece is coated in your selected finish (clear or white)
• Glaze Firing (16+ hours): Pieces are loaded back into the kiln for a second kiln firing which creates a glossy, durable finish
• Final Handling: Pieces are unloaded, sorted, and carefully packaged for pickup or shipping

This process requires time, precision, and kiln space, but is well worth the wait for in a finished piece you can use and keep for years to come
