Kick off Oktoberfest at Castle Island with this one-time-only special event — Ceramic Beer Stein Painting! Whether you come for the joy of making, the community, or the craft beer, this guided stien painting workshop is all about having fun while you paint, sip and socialize. You’ll learn pottery painting basics and leave with a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted beer stein.
Your stein will be glazed + fired by our studio professionals and available for pickup at Castle Island Brewing around 6-8 weeks after your workshop.
Bonus: We donate $1 from every ticket to mental health initiatives. Learn more here about which non-profits we’ve given back to so far, and how you can help choose who we support next.
- Hands-On Instruction: A relaxed, hands-on pottery painting workshop guided by an experienced host. You'll learn how to use pottery underglazes (aka paint for ceramics) to customize your own pottery piece.
- Beginner-Friendly Vibes: Laid-back, no-pressure energy perfect for first-timers, solo guests, and friend groups alike.
- All Supplies Provided: Your choice of a beer stein or cowboy boot to paint. We bring the steins, paints, and all the materials you'll need to paint your customized stein!
- Glazing + Kiln Firing Your ticket includes two professional kiln firings + glazing for your pottery. This is essential so your pottery pieces are food-safe and waterproof. Pick between white or clear glaze, and we will take care of the rest.
⏳ Timeline: 6–8 weeks
Your piece(s) will be ready for pickup at Castle Island Brewing in approximately 6–8 weeks after your workshop. Why does it take weeks? Each ceramic piece goes through a detailed, multi-step process:
• Drying (7–10 days): Your piece fully dries to prepare for the kiln
• Bisque Firing (24+ hours): Pieces are loaded into the kiln for the first kiln firing which hardens the clay
• Sanding + Prep: Pieces are unloaded from the kiln, then edges are smoothed and bottoms are cleaned and waxed
• Glazing: Your piece is coated in your selected finish (clear or white)
• Glaze Firing (16+ hours): Pieces are loaded back into the kiln for a second kiln firing which creates a glossy, durable finish
• Final Handling: Pieces are unloaded, sorted, and carefully packaged for pickup or shipping
This process requires time, precision, and kiln space, but is well worth the wait for a finished pottery piece that you can use and keep for years to come!
